Snacking on Sprouts

So, even if you're not a major 'sprout' fan, these are delicious! I mean, if you seriously, seriously hate them then maybe turn away, but I LOVE SPROUTS!

Call me weird if you like but I really do, I'm not talking about the type of sprout you used to get with your roast dinners, the ones that have been boiled to an inch of their poor little lives, the ones that look dull and grey and almost fall apart or turn to mush as soon as your fork touches them... You know the type - BLEUGH! Yeah, they're gross! I'm talking about a really nutty sprout. The type that has been roasted or fried, maybe drizzled with some type of flavoured oil, nourished, cared for and then eaten with love! Ok, I know I'm getting a little carried away here but they are SO SO good for you! Plus, when they are cooked right they can taste so so yummy!

  1. Brussels sprouts are rich in many valuable nutrients. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are a very good source of numerous nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6,dietary fibercholine, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus, and omega-3 fatty acids.

They were so delicious I had to try and make something similar at home, and here it is! My recipe for Teriyaki Sprouts... enjoy! 

  • Between 5 - 10 sprouts
  • 1 tsp garlic oil
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp teriyaki sauce (depending on how many sprouts you have)
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp yakitori sauce
  • chilli oil (to your liking)
  • salt and pepper
  • Firstly you want to peel the sprouts to you have individual leaves
  • Add them to a bowl and add the garlic oil and 'massage' this into the sprouts
  • Place on a baking tray well spread apart
  • Grill the sprouts until just starting to brown on the edges
  • Add to a frying pan and fry for a minute or so
  • Add to the pan the teriyaki sauce, yakitori sauce and chilli oil and fry for a further minute
  • Then add salt and pepper to your liking
  • Serve as a snack or even sprinkle on top of a salad as an extra touch
You can vary this recipe however you like too! Maybe add some spring onions, chilli, sesame seeds? It's entirely up to you!
