LIFESTYLE: It's All About Balance

Balance.... It's that word again. The word that's thrown around all over social media and ironically used so much that it's kind of used 'out of balance' if you get what I mean?
However, me being so 'on trend' ha ha! I thought I would do a little post on it. This time of year, as we come into Spring, we look back on those New Year Resolutions with sadness and frustration. How could I not stick to them? I said I wasn't going to eat processed sugar, dairy, meat, gluten and caffeine. I was going to go to the gym at least 5 days a week and really get on with drinking gallons and gallons of water! I had it all planned out too... I'm sure you've heard it all before. We've all done it and (for most of us) failed... miserably... with a scoop of Ben & Jerrys in our mouths... with a chocolate bar in one hand and a loaf of bread in the other ha ha! Why can't we do it though? Why is it so hard? Well, I would say because we're doing so bloody much! It's all very well saying you are going to do this, that and the other. That we will be super healthy, make fresh granola every morning and spend the evening hammering the cross-trainer, but then life gets in the way and we realise we have a full time job, kids, partners and if you're lucky your own life to take care of as well!

So, with it being March and the Spring Equinox on it's way, let's start again. This is your chance, no excuses this time! We can do it right, we can do it together and do it with BALANCE!

How do you start again?

The first thing I would do is choose around 3 things that you would like to change this year. Either your diet, fitness, skincare, lifestyle etc etc and stick to them. Don't go into over kill and say you want everything... not that you can't, it's just waaaay harder! Note down on separate pieces of paper your end goal at the bottom for each one and then work your way back. You want these goals to be as detailed as possible too, don't just say "I want to lose weight", say I want to lose "10 pounds" and then you have a real, measurable goal. Work back from this goal all the steps that you need to take to get there and then try and build them into your life. Don't say you will go to the gym 5 nights a week if you work late 3 of them, look at other methods that you can 'work out' instead. For example doing the 7 minute workout app each morning/night, going for a long walk at weekend with your family and venture to new places each time.
Want to change your diet instead? Start simple, swap your pasta for gluten free. Have almond milk porridge instead of normal milk or have a dairy free latte instead of a normal one. Start gradual and make the changes slowly so they are actually achievable - you will be so surprised the difference the little things can make!

So let's start again for March. Don't put pressure on yourself and if you want that piece of chocolate/bread/cake/coffee have it! Savour it and enjoy it! Just not all the time! Be mindful of balancing your life so you are still happy and I'm sure you will be able to make those changes that will last too!

Thanks so much for reading,

Big love,

Em x
