So, I've been trying out different protein powders now for quite some time. I've tried ones (in the past may I add) with whey, rice and also hemp protein in them. Some I like, some I loved and some well.... no, not so much! I don't feel that I really need a protein powder in my diet as I feel that I get enough from it already. I don't do HIT workouts, cross fit, running or anything else that's quite high intensity. I do however know that I could do with a 'pick me up' sometimes in the afternoon or something that can replace eggs in a morning. This is where the Super Elixir comes in...
Numero uno, I'm a sucker for packaging. The Super Elixir is absolutely stunning and I should say the picts don't really do it justice. I purchased the white caddy filled with the chocolate protein powder around a month ago and I am already addicted to it.
The Super Elixir was designed by Elle McPhearson and her Nutritionist Dr Simone Laubscher. It is a fantastic all round protein powder providing all 9 essential amino acids, B Vitamins, antioxidants and also Vitamin C. It is also organic and vegan friendly too (so no nasty whey proteins here!) They also claim that it can help boost your metabolism and I find it keeps me pretty full till lunchtime - which most smoothies don't.
Over the last few weeks I've been trying to work out a recipe which I like the most and also gives me the most nutrients too. This is what I've come up with...
- 250ml water
- 1/4 cup organic oats
- 1 frozen banana
- handful of organic spinach leaves
- 1 heaped teaspoon almond butter
- 2 teaspoons of chia seeds
- 1 scoop of Nourishing protein powder
And it kind of looks like this...
Ok, I know... it's not the prettiest! Core blimey though, it tastes good - well if you like a chocolate shake that is! If not, they do a vanilla option too!
It does come at a price though. Starting at around £39 for 300g I understand it's a higher end powder. It does contain plenty of nutrients and I find that I only have it around 3 times a week so it lasts me pretty well too. If you're interested you can find it here.
Don't want to spend that much? Why not try my other fav - Sun Warrior Protein Powder. This is vegan too and is around a similar price, but you get waaay more in it - as in 1kg!
Anyhoo, I hope you found this review helpful. I'm not a massive spender really, so for me this is a bit of a luxury in my life that I'm currently enjoying! Would I buy it again, yes I think I would actually!
Thanks so much for reading,
Big love,
Em x
